Ernie Barnes writes of his childhood during the Jim Crow era, living in "the bottom" of Durham, North Carolina; through his professional football career in the early 1960s; to his debut solo exhibition as an artist at a prestigious Manhattan gallery.

The 96-page hardcover book features 22 full-page, color photos of original art and 52 photos of studies from his personal sketchbooks.
