The Kanye West Foundation is dedicated to combating the dropout problem in the nation’s schools and has chosen as its first initiative a compelling music program.
The program Loop Dreams is designed to support the fight to keep instruments in the schools. Loop Dreams will provide opportunities for “at-risk” students to learn how to write and produce music while simultaneously improving their academic skills. A loop is what is created when a sample is played repeatedly. Thus the name was chosen for the program designed to keep many kids in school who want to rap and produce. Now in its developmental stages, the program will be piloted in five schools beginning in the fall of 2005. The goal over the next five years is to expand Loop Dreams in schools nationwide.
